| The China Scholarship
Council :
The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a non-profit
institution with legal person status affiliated
with the Ministry of Education.
The objective of the CSC is to provide, in accordance
with the law, statutes and relevant principles and
policies of China, financial assistance to the Chinese
citizens wishing to study abroad and to the foreign
citizens wishing to study in China in order to develop
the educational, scientific and technological, and
cultural exchanges and economic and trade cooperation
between China and other countries, to strengthen
the friendship and understanding between Chinese
people and the people of all other countries, and
to promote world peace and the socialist modernization
drive in China.
China Scholarship Council is financed mainly by
the state's special appropriations for scholarship
programmes. At the same time the CSC accepts donations
from the personages, enterprises, social organizations
and other organizations at home and abroad.
The tasks of the CSC are to use legal and economic
means to manage the affairs of the Chinese citizens
studying abroad and of the foreigners studying in
China, take charge of the management and utilization
of China Scholarship, determine the relevant assistance
projects and modes, formulate management regulations
and put the scholarship to best use; manage the
bilateral and multilateral exchange or unilateral
scholarships between China and other countries;
manage other matters concerning educational exchanges
and scientific and technological cooperation on
behalf of relevant organizations, insitutions nad
individuals inside and outside China; provide financial
support to the projects conducive to the development
of ChinaAZs education and its friendly relations
with other countries; strive for donations from
home and abroad, expand the sources of the Scholarship
and increase the Scholarship; establish contacts
with its counterparts at home and abroad and carry
out exchange and cooperation with them.
Procedures of Application for International Students
Scholarship
The Distinguished International Students Scholarship
was established by the Ministry of Education of
China to sponsor outstanding international students
who have finished their bachelors or masters education
in China and have been enrolled by designated Chinese
institutions as Masters or Doctoral candidates or
are now carrying out their Masters or Doctoral studies
in those institutions (there are 50 full scholarships
for academic year 2006/2007). China Scholarship
Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) is responsible
for the application, evaluation and management of
the scheme.
Categories of Applicants and Duration of Scholarship.
Master degree students
1-3 academic years
Doctoral degree students
1-4 academic years
Application Procedures:
If applicants continue their study in the present
institutions, they are required to submit their
applications to CSC via the institutions recommendation.
If applicants graduated from the current institutions
and apply for further study in another institution,
they are required to submit their applications to
CSC via both the two institutions commendation.
CSC does not accept the applications from the non-designated
Chinese institutions for the time being.
Application must be submitted before the deadline
for the application dated every year.
Eligibility Criteria for Distinguished International
Students Scholarship:
Applicants must be international students currently
studying in the designated Chinese institutions
and in good health.
Applicants must have a good academic record and
merits in the duration of their academic year, also
they must be those who have been enrolled by the
designated Chinese institutions as Masters or Doctoral
candidates in the year of their graduation or are
now carrying out their Masters or Doctoral studies
in those Chinese institutions.
Applicants for master degree studies must be under
the age of 35, and applicants for doctoral degree
studies must be under the age of 40.
Details of the Scholarship and the Allowance provided:
This kind of scholarship is full scholarship, which
covers the tuition fees, fee for basic learning
materials, accommodation, living allowance, fee
for outpatient medical services, comprehensive medical
insurance plan of foreign students in China, a one-off
settlement subsidy and a one-off inter-city travel
allowance.
Living allowance is monthly paid to the students
by the institution at the following rates (CNY yuan
per month):
Master degree students:
CNY 1,100 yuan
Doctoral degree students:
CNY 1,400 yuan
Fee for outpatient medical service refers to the
out-patient expense generated in the institutions
hospital or the hospitals appointed by the institutions.
The students should afford a certain percentage
of expense in accordance with the institutions regulations.
Comprehensive medical insurance plan of international
students in China is insured by the Ministry of
Education of China for the scholarship students
in China against diseases and accidents. The institution
is entitled to ask for compensation on the payment
receipts from the insurance company for the expenses
generated from hospitalizing for serious diseases
or from accidental injury according to the stipulated
insurance articles.
The scholarship students are required to afford
their inter-city ticket when they have to transfer
to another admitting institutions. For those who
are originally the Chinese Government Scholarship
Students and eligible to the international travel
cost, the international air ticket will be postponed
to provide once only till the day they complete
their study.
Essential Documents required for application:
The applicants must fill in and provide the following
materials truly and correctly (in duplicate). Application
Form for Distinguished International Students Scholarship
(printed by CSC). The application form can obtain
from the institutions and also could be downloaded
from the website of CSC:

Copies of last diploma and degree certificate.
Candidates should provide proof letter issued by
the institutions if the candidates have not obtain
the diploma and degree certificate during the application.
Copy of Admission Notice as masters or doctoral
degree student. Candidates should provide proof
letter issued by the institutions if the candidates
have not obtain the Admission Notice during the
application.
Transcripts during the study in Chinese institutions.
Study plan (Should include the understanding of
the major and plan for further study. No less than
1000 words for master candidates and no less than
2000 words for doctor candidates).
Recommendation letter by the Chinese institution
in which the student currently studies. Recommendation
letters by two professors.
Other materials (released articles or academic achievements).
Official note issued by the Embassy of candidate's
country, in which approve the candidate's application
of the scholarship, and should indicate that the
candidate is not in the exchange program between
the two governments
The above documents should reach CSC before the
end of stipulated day sent by the recommending institution,
CSC does not accept individual application.
