TCM Clinical Departments of the Hospital
1. Acupuncture Department:
It is one of the largest TCM practice bases
for foreign students in the hospital. The training programs
in Acupuncture include technique observation, as well
as actual practice in acupuncture techniques. The practical
teaching and lecturing are provided in English, so the
translator is not required. The clinics boast a number
of veteran acupuncturists with rich clinical experience,
and some middle-aged or young acupuncturists who have
laid a solid foundation in their profession. They are
capable of treating various diseases with therapie like
needling, drug-cushioned moxibustion, direct moxibustion,
hydro-acupuncture, "lai-da-style" needling,
scalp acupuncture, and medicinal moxibustion, all of which
reveal different aspects of the character of TCM. In addition
to effectively in treating some common Internal Disorder,
Gynaecological & Pediatric Disorder, Traumatology
and Orthopedics. The department also has achieved remarkable
developments in treating the following Problems: Chronic
Bronchial Asthma, Paraplegia, Hemiplegia, Chronic Diarrhea,
Hiccup, Nocturnal Enuresis in Children, Osteo-Arthritis,
Soft Tissue Disorder,Haemoptysis. Specialized treatments
for Asthma, Insomnia and Chronic Pelvic Inflammation have
also demonstrated great effectiveness.The department is
also entrusted with the task of sending experts abroad
to provide medical service, and to train medical students
from abroad. The department has sent acupuncturists on
many occasions to countries like Central Africa, Mali,
Poland, Holland and Singapore, where they give both lectures
and medical treatment.
2. Department of Traditional Chinese
Internal Medicine:
The department has accumulated rich experience
in the prevention and treatment of chronic bronchitis.
In Zhejiang Province, it is taking the lead in the fields
of treating asthma with a reinforced, 'step-by-step' therapy
, consolidating therapy for cases of Cor Pulminale in
the remission stage and emergency treatment of respiratory
failure. Extensive experience has been accumulated in
treating Gastro-Intestinal Disorders such as Digestive
Tract Ulcers, Chronic Gastritis, Pyloric Infection caused
by Helicobacterium,Cholecystitis, Cholelithiasis, Chronic
Atrophic Gastritis, Chronic Diarrhea, Hepatitis and its
related diseases. The department is also renowned for
its TCM based treatment of senile diseases. Zhejiang Provincial
Academic Committee of Researches in Senile Diseases is
attached to it, the director and vice director of the
committee being two physicians of the department. There
is a research group specialized in the study of treating
senile diseases by means of TCM and Western Pharmco- therapies,
which has made great progress in treating disorders, such
as Chronic Exhaustion Syndrome, Coronary Heart Disease,
Sequelae of Strokes, Senile Osteoporosis, and more.
3. Department of Massage (Tuina)
It is a leading massage department in China.
Many kinds of diseases can be treated by massage such
as Trauma, Internal Disorders, Gynaecological & Paediatric
Disorders. It is the first department to have achieved
great effectiveness in treating Cervical Lumbar Pains
and Pediatric Disorders with massage, and the State Science
Commission has spread its experience nationwide. It has
also developed a technique of 'treating prolapse of lumbar
inter-vertebral disc with one-step method of restitution',
which has won a reputation both provincially and countrywide,
and was awarded a prize for 'scientific and technological
development' by the provincial government. Other achievements
made by the department include the therapy of 'Resolving
Adherent Osteo-Arthritis', the treatment of Dislocated
Small Joints of Lumbar Vertebrae with the 'Pull-Rotate
Plus Leg-Pulling' method, and the successful therapy of
manipulation in treating Pediatric Diarrhea, Malnutrition,
and Muscle-related Torticollis. Headache, Epigastric Pain,
Hypertension, Heart Disease, Insomnia and Sequelae of
Strokes are also treated in this department.
4.Department of Orthopaedics and
Traumatology:
This department is the largest inpatient
quantity in the hospital and is well equipped technically.
It is also the base of the Zhejiang Provincial Institute
of Orthopedics and Traumatology of TCM. The department
is characterized by its application of traditional manipulation
in resetting limb fractures, fixing fractured bones with
either small splints or fir bark and in treating the patients
with oral medication and exterior applications. Through
the combination of traditional therapies with new advances
in modern medicine, it has achieved considerable effectiveness
in treating Cervical and Lumbar Spondylopathy, Arthritis,
Soft Tissue Injuries and various fractures, in particular,
in fixing fractures with splints and in treating Necrosis
of Femoral Head and Osteoporosis.
5. Department of Gynaecology:
The department has made rapid development,
is well-known in China in treating Gynaecology disorders.
It receives an average of 300 patients daily. The department
has achieved a great deal in treating the following diseases
with TCM: Infertility, Metrorrhagia, Metroptosis, Endometrioses,
Hystero Myoma, Pelvic Inflammation, Dysmenorrhea, Menopausal
Syndrome and Postpartum Disorders,Dysfunetion Uterine
Bleeding,Amenorrhea,Polycystic Ovary Syndrome,etc.
6.Department of Paediatrics:
Rich experience has been accumulated clinically
in preventing and treating Paediatric Fever, Asthma, Allergics,
Paediatric Diarrhea,Epilepsy,Enuresis,
Anorexia,Nephrosis,Haemotology Disorder,Immune Disorder,etc.
with oral administration of decoctions, pills, and some
exterior therapies like application on acu-points, medicinal
enema and aerosol inhalations.
7.Department of Neurology:
The department has achieved great effectiveness
in treating Acute Cerebro-Vascular Diseases with therapies
combining both Chinese and western medicines. The curative
rates for treating Cerebral Haemorrhage have reached 85.37%
and 94.4% for cerebral occlusion. The department has made
some intensive studies into the prevention of strokes,
as well as treatment and rehabilitation of sequelae of
strokes.
8.Department of Kidney Disease:
Under the academic Guidance of Dr. Li Xueming,
a state-honored prominent physician, the department employs
both traditional Chinese therapies and western pharmaceutics,
together with some special therapies combining both Chinese
and western medicines. It has acquired a unique understanding
of the treatment of the following diseases: Acute and
Chronic Renal Failures, Lupus Nephritis, Diabetes-Caused
Kidney Disfunction, Nephrotic Syndrome and Rheumatoid
Arthritis. The combination of oral administration and
exterior applications has achieved a remarkable relief
of symptoms of severe and migratory arthralgia by laboratory
experiments,which conducted at the hospital have been
the based for these treatment for relief of pain.
9.Department of Oncology:
This department is characterized by its
use of TCM, surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, laser
therapy and immuno-logical therapy in treating Oncology
patients. Its research in treating cancer pains by means
of the step-by-step method, which is the basis of the
TCM theory, called 'differentiation of symptoms and signs'
has taken a leading position in China. The result of its
research in using TCM to relieve pain won a top prize
of 'scientific and technological development' awarded
by Zhejiang Provincial Government.
10. Department of TCM External Medicine:
By employing TCM and the application of
traditional Chinese pharmaceutics, the department has
developed unique, effective therapies for treating diseases
like Acne, Bi Syndrome, Inter-Costal Neuralgia, Cervico-Brachial
Syndrome, "Frozen shoulder", "Tennis Elbow",
Sciatica, Asteo-arthritis. These therapies have also proved
their effects with no side effect in treating breast problems
such as Hyper-Plasia of Mammary Glands, Abnormal Breast
Growth, and in rehabilitation after surgical operations
for breast cancer and multiple fibrosarcoma of breast,
etc.
11.Department of Dermatology:
The department treats a total number of
35,000 outpatients each year with purely traditional Chinese
medicine. It covers various kinds of dermatitis like Flat
Warts, Summer Dermatitis, Pediatric Atopic Dermatitis,
Alopecia, Eczema, Herpes Zoster, Pigmentation, and Urticaria,
and has achieved considerable effectiveness with low recurrence
rates.
