ABOUT - HEBEI MEDICAL UNIVERSITY
Hebei Medical University, located in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, North China Plain, was established in 1894, basically founded from the London Hospital by the British people in 1879. In 1881, it offered the medical school to cultivate the medical talents. It is one of the oldest universities in China. It consists of the original Hebei Medical College, Hebei Provincial College of Traditional Medicine and Shijiazhuang Advanced Medical College.
During the development and evolution in more than hundred years, in this university there held the first basketball match of China, established the first medical journal "Renshen Medicine", edited the first "anatomy of human body system", took the first implementation of finger replantation surgery in China, and firstly discovered the acute motor axonal neuropathy in the world.
Currently, Hebei Medical University has become a comprehensive medical university composed of western medicine, traditional medicine, pharmacy and other subjects. There are 14 majors of undergraduate, 2 majors of joint undergraduate and postgraduate, 56 majors of postgraduate, 16 majors of doctorate, and four main subjects have been built for post-doctorate research mobiles, including Biology, Basic Medicine, Clinic Medicine and Integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine & Western Medicine. And the last one is the national-level subject.
The current enrollment is about 20,000. There are 9781 full-time students in school, 6728 adult students, and nearly 50 foreign students from South Korea and Japan and so on. Now it has been qualified to enroll students from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
Hebei Medical University has a body of high quality teaching staff. The total number is over 7100, the faculty is made up of 867 professors, senior researchers and chief physicians, 1350 associate professors. Among them, there are 1 academician of China National Engineering Research Institute, 2 candidates of the Institute and 112 experts who can enjoy the State Council Special Pay. A group of experts and professors of great attainments are well-known within the province and even the whole country, 18 excellent experts at the provincial level, 16 outstanding young experts at the provincial or national level, 25 excellent teachers at the provincial or national level, and nearly 40 have taken the positions of the standing or committee members of the national specialties associations.
In the past few years, Hebei Medical University has become an important window of cultural and economic exchanges with the world. It has established closer cooperation with about ten medical colleges and research institutes of Japan, South Korea, America and France successively. 24 foreign experts have been invited to take the honorary positions of this university. Over 400 experts and professors have been sent abroad to give lectures or attend international academic conferences. Nearly 100 young teachers are assiduously studying abroad for Ph.D. degree. Its cooperation with the domestic colleges and universities has grown increasingly.
At present, Hebei Medical University is turning on a new look and making great efforts to establish a superior comprehensive medical university with local characteristics to meet the needs of socialist construction.
